Tips & Tricks

When playing at the park it is always easy to use a wooden stick found on the ground and your dog will retrieve it and certainly like to chew it. Accident happens and just imagine your dog running with a stick, the stick got stuck into the ground, the other end might break into the palate!

By law, a dog should have an ID tag, with name & address, (house number & post code). It is always good to add your telephone number, which will be helpful in returning your dog to you.

We cannot recommend enough that you start training your dog as soon as possible: firstly to keep him/her under control, and secondly to socialize him/her.
I just witnessed an incident of a dog biting somebody - is it the dog's fault? Has he never been to any classes?
If you're not too sure about how to handle a dog, why not visit
our page with some training clubs around Reading.
I even crossed a vicious golden retriever in the park  with no tag.   No matter what the breed, size or how affectionate they can be at home ... a dog is a dog.  He's not going to write a letter to the council, to complain or phone a lawyer or anything like that, sometimes they use their teeth when they're not at ease.
As a dog owner, make sure you can handle him, no matter what size he is. The bigger they are, the nastier the injury can be.

We notice that some dog owners always keep their dogs  on the lead, even if they walk them in different places, they don't really play-interact with other dogs. In our work we can't let the dog off the lead as we are responsible if we lose them. But again with some recall training, first with a long lead then without, in your house, your garden, in the park, in the woods (more and more distractions) you should manage to get them back, so they will play more, socialize more, which means less problems if you meet another dog.
